Pot limit omaha tips
Poker Rakeback Online brings you another poker strategy article.
This time we will take a little dive into the world of omaha.
If you are new to this site i recommend that you also read the article “what is poker rakeback” if you havent already signed up for a Poker Rakeback Online account.
In a sense pot limit omaha is rather similar to no limit holdem, however there are few key differences.
That is why recommend everyone who is just getting started with playing online poker to read this pot limit omaha tips for beginners article.
1. You use two of your pocket cards.
That is exactly two cards each time, not one or two less or one or two more. Thus if you are holding AAAA you don’t have four aces but rather two aces (and low chances of improving your hand).
Another example of this would be that when the board reads KQJT3 with no flush possibilities and you are holding A973 you don’t have the nut straight but rather only a pair of threes.
One common mistake we have seen many beginner players to do is that when there are 4 cards of the same suit on the table and they are holding the ace of that suit they think they have the best possible flush.
When in fact that lone ace of that suit in their pocket helps them only if they use it as a bluffing weapon by betting aggressively when they know that their opponent can’t have the nut flush.
2. Big pocket pairs are weaker
In holdem when you are dealt pocket queens or better pocket pair you can most of the time happily put your whole stack to the pot before the flop.
In pot limit omaha the situation is quite a different.
If you plan to get lot of money into the pot with pocket queens or pocket kings you should make sure that you have excellent “back-up cards”.
In other words getting lot of money into the pot before the flop with QQ73 is not a good idea; in fact you might even want to consider just folding it before the flop.
On the other hand getting lot of money in with QQJT with flush possibility is not a terrible mistake.
Having two kings in your pockets is a bit better than having two queens, but the difference isn’t as big as it is in texas holdem.
With pocket aces you can most of the time put your whole stack to the middle before the flop even in pot limit omaha.
However keep in mind that if your opponent holds a AAJT with flush possibility against your AA73 with no flush possibility you are somewhat a considerable underdog.
3. Your opponents have full houses more often.
In fact your opponents have all kinds of power house hands more often in omaha than in holdem, simply because they are dealt four cards instead of two.
However it appears that for an unknown reason people are much less scared in omaha about full house than they should be.
So if you are holding two pair, three of a kind, straight or flush and there is a pair on the board: be careful, be very careful.
We hope you found these pot limit omaha tips for beginners helpful. Good luck at the tables!
