Exploiting Your Opponents Weaknesses in Poker

By exploiting the weaknesses of your opponent, you give yourself a much needed advantage, and any advantage that you can have over your opponent will result in a better return for you. Lacking the ability to exploit the weaknesses of your opponents means that you leave leaving money on the table every time you play. With that said, being able to exploit the weaknesses of your opponents is not nearly as challenging as you might believe.
The first step that you need to take in order to exploit your opponents’ weaknesses is you need to be able to identify accurately weaknesses in their game. Without having the knowledge about your opponents’ weaknesses, you cannot exploit them for your benefit. In order to identify your opponents’ weaknesses, you need to pay very close attention to everything that they do from every position, as there are many types of poker players. Watch what your opponents do and compare it to how you would play from the same position. Is your one opponent averse to making big plays and do they often fold to aggression? If so, your opponent may be playing with scared money and that is something that you can exploit. Once you identify a weakness you can potentially exploit, the next step is to build a strategy and attempt to take advantage of that weakness.
With a weakness in an opponent identified, the next step toward exploiting it is to identify a strategy that you can use effectively to take advantage of your opponent’s weakness. In order to devise a strategy that you can use, there are a number of different steps that you need to take. The first thing that you should do is ask yourself what you can do that could result in yourself taking advantage of the other person’s weakness. After asking yourself that simple question, you should try and answer the question with an internal dialogue.
In the example used above with a player playing with scared money, one answer that you would come to as a way to exploit this weakness would be to play more aggressively and attack that person’s chip stack when you get the opportunity to do so. Now that you have identified a strategy that you should be able to use to exploit the weakness of your opponent, the time to implement it has come.
The hard parts of identifying a weakness and figuring out a way to take advantage of that weakness are over and it is time, hopefully, to reap the rewards that you have set yourself up to collect.
